Electoral Apathy?
Prior to the recent Parliamentary
election politicians of all parties bemoaned the general apathy of the
electorate. The following extract from the Gentleman's Magazine of 24
November 1755 shows that things were not always so in Carmarthen.

The Red Lion Inn faced Guildhall Square was
the Tory Headquarters. It is now No. 6, occupied at present by Going Places.
The Whig headquarters was at The Greyhound in Bridge Street, now part of
Towy Works.
